Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Weavers is a small place in Darke County, Ohio, a county in the state of Ohio in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.

What Was Weavers Like?

Long ago, Weavers was also known as Weavers Station. It got its name from a person named Peter Weaver, who owned the land where the community grew. Imagine a time before cars and the internet! Small communities like Weavers Station were important stops for people and goods.

A Busy Little Hub

From 1868 until 1914, Weavers Station had its own post office. This was a big deal because it was how people sent and received letters and packages. It also had a railroad station, which meant trains stopped there. Trains were the main way to travel and move goods across the country back then.

The community also had a grain elevator, a tall building used to store crops like corn and wheat from local farms. Farmers would bring their harvests there. And of course, there was a country store, where people could buy almost anything they needed, from food to tools. Weavers Station was a busy little hub for the people living nearby!
