Wendell L. Byrd is an American politician and businessman. He used to be an accountant. He has been a member of the Michigan House of Representatives since 2015. This is a group of people who make laws for the state of Michigan.
Learning and School
Wendell Byrd went to the Detroit College of Business. He earned a special degree there. This degree was a Bachelor of Science in Accounting Development. The Detroit College of Business is now part of Davenport University.
What He Does
Before he became a politician, Mr. Byrd worked as an accountant. He also worked as a tax auditor for the state of Michigan. He helped check taxes to make sure they were correct. He also served as a deputy comptroller for the city of Ecorse, Michigan. A comptroller helps manage money for a city.
He worked for the state for 28 years before he retired. In 2013, he was chosen to be on the Detroit Police Commission. This group helps oversee the police department in Detroit. Mr. Byrd also owns his own small business.
Currently, Mr. Byrd is part of several important groups in the House of Representatives. He works on the Commerce and Trade Committee. He also serves on the Energy Committee. Another group he is on is the Tax Policy Committee. These committees help decide on new laws.
Mr. Byrd tried to become a member of the Michigan House before. He ran for election in 1998, 2000, 2004, and 2006.
