West Sonora was once known simply as Sonora. This community started to grow around the year 1852. This was an important time because a railroad line was built to reach the area. The railroad helped connect West Sonora with other places, making it easier for people and goods to travel.
A post office was opened in West Sonora in 1855. This post office was a central spot for people to send and receive mail. It served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1940.
