A White Knight split

The White Knight was a popular candy bar from Australia. It had a chewy, mint-flavoured center covered in chocolate. You could easily spot it by its blue and white wrapper, which showed a picture of a knight riding a horse. Its catchy slogan was 'Mighty Mint Chew'.

What Was the White Knight Bar?

The White Knight bar was a sweet treat that was first made by Hoadley's Chocolates. Later, another big company called Nestlé Australia took over its production. Each bar weighed about 25 grams. Inside, it had a soft, white, minty chew, and outside, it was coated in a tasty chocolate layer.

The Collectible Knights Inside

Back in the 1980s, the White Knight bar came with a special surprise! Inside the wrapper, there was a small piece of cardboard. On this card, you would find a picture of a fictional knight. Kids could bend the card at the bottom to make the knight stand up. It was a fun game for children to collect and trade these different knight figures. However, this cool feature was eventually stopped, probably to save on production costs.

Where Was It Sold?

For many years, you could find White Knight bars in most big Australian supermarkets. They were also sold in some discount stores like Kmart and in smaller local shops called milk bars or convenience stores.

By 2014, it became a bit harder to find. The bars were mainly sold at Woolworths and Coles supermarkets, plus a few special candy shops. The White Knight bar was usually cheaper than bigger chocolate bars because it was smaller. For example, it cost about 75 cents in 2008. But around 2010, its price went up to be similar to larger chocolate bars, costing about 90 cents.

When Did It Disappear?

Sadly, Nestlé Australia stopped making the White Knight bar around 2016. Many people who loved its unique minty taste missed it after it was no longer available.
