Wilfred II (also known as Wifred II or Borrell I) was an important ruler in a part of Spain long ago. He was the Count of Barcelona, Girona, and Ausona from the year 897 to 911. He took over these lands after his father, Wilfred the Hairy, passed away. His mother's name was Guinedilda.

Who Was Count Wilfred II?

Wilfred II was a count, which was like a powerful leader or governor of a region during the Middle Ages. He ruled over three important areas in what is now Catalonia, Spain. These areas were Barcelona, Girona, and Ausona. He continued the work of his famous father, Wilfred the Hairy, who had done a lot to make these regions stronger.

Family and Becoming a Ruler

When Wilfred the Hairy died, his lands were divided among his sons. Wilfred II received Barcelona, Girona, and Ausona. He had three brothers: Sunifred II, Miró, and Sunyer. Sunyer was the youngest brother. Because Wilfred II was still quite young when his father died, Sunyer helped him manage the three counties. This shows how important family was in ruling these lands.

Wilfred II's Legacy

Wilfred II ruled for about 14 years. When he died in 911, his counties were passed on to his younger brother, Sunyer, who had helped him govern. Wilfred II is remembered for founding a special place called the Sant Pau del Camp monastery in Barcelona. This monastery was also where he was buried. A bishop named Idalguer of Vic helped make sure Wilfred II's final wishes were carried out.
