Wikatinda facts for kids
The Wikatinda were a group of Aboriginal people who lived in the northern part of Queensland, Australia. They were part of a larger group known as the Wik peoples who lived on the Cape York Peninsula. We don't have much information about their specific language today.
Where the Wikatinda Lived
The Wikatinda were a small group. Their traditional lands covered about 200 square miles (518 square kilometers). This area stretched along the coast, starting south of the Archer River. It went inland for about 8 miles (13 kilometers).
About the Wikatinda People
By 1974, a researcher named Norman Tindale noted that the Wikatinda people were almost gone. This means that very few, if any, of the original Wikatinda people were still living.
