Early Life and Education
Wilhelmus Wilhelmius was born in Rotterdam on March 19, 1720. His father, Johannes Wilhelmius, was also a minister, which is a religious leader. His grandfather was a famous thinker named Wilhelmus Wilhelmius the Elder.
Wilhelmus started studying at the University of Leiden in 1735 when he was about 15 years old. He then moved to the University of Utrecht and finished his studies there in 1739. For his final big research project, he worked with a professor named Joseph Serrurier. His project was about how our minds and bodies are connected.
Travels and Career
In 1742, Wilhelmus traveled to England. There, he became a member of the Fellow of the Royal Society, which is a very old and respected group of scientists. He was introduced to this group by a well-known scientist named Petrus van Musschenbroek.
When he came back to the Netherlands in 1743, Wilhelmus became a minister in a town called Lekkerkerk. After working in a few other places, he settled down in Middelburg in 1749.
Family Life
In 1751, Wilhelmus Wilhelmius married Aletta Maria van den Brande. Aletta came from a wealthy family, and she brought a lot of money with her when they got married. This allowed them to buy a large estate, which is like a big property with a house, in a place called Brakel.
