The William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum, often called The Breman, is a special place in Atlanta. It is a cultural center that teaches people about Jewish history, culture, and arts. The museum focuses especially on the history of Jewish people in Georgia and the difficult time known as the Holocaust.

The Breman opened its doors in 1996. It is the biggest museum of its kind in the southeastern United States. You can find it in Midtown, right across from the Center for Puppetry Arts. The museum is named after William Breman, a businessman from Atlanta. He was a kind person who gave a lot of money to help the Jewish community in Atlanta.

Exploring the Museum's Exhibitions

The Breman Museum has many different exhibits. Some are always there, and others travel to the museum for a short time. These exhibits help visitors learn about Jewish values, customs, and traditions. They use films, music, and art to explore important ideas. The Holocaust Years: A Permanent Exhibit

Over the years, The Breman has hosted many interesting temporary exhibits. One exhibit featured the words and pictures of Maurice Sendak. He is the famous author of the book Where the Wild Things Are. Another exhibit explored the "Golden Age of Comic Books" from 1938 to 1950. There was also an exhibit about the history of the Rich's department store, called "Return to Rich's: The Story Behind The Store."

Research and Collections

The Breman Museum is also home to important collections. These include the Ida Pearle and Joseph Cuba Archives for Southern Jewish History. It also has the Savannah Jewish Archives and a Genealogy center. These collections gather and keep records of Jewish life in Georgia and the Southeast.

Stories from the Past

This special collection has over 50,000 photographs, documents, and personal stories. It also includes objects that show the history of Jewish people in the South. It is the largest collection of its kind. The museum has a large exhibit that tells about the struggles Jewish people faced. This includes their experiences in Poland, Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Greece during the Holocaust.

New Lives in the Southeast

The museum also shares stories of Holocaust survivors. It tells how they came to the southeastern United States and built new lives for themselves. You can also listen to interviews with these survivors. They share their personal experiences and memories.
