William Cage (born March 28, 1666 – died January 21, 1738) was an English politician. He was a member of the Tory Party, which was one of the main political groups in England at the time. William Cage served in the House of Commons of England from 1702 to 1705 and later in the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1710 to 1715. The House of Commons is where elected representatives meet to make laws for the country.

William Cage was born to William Cage, a lawyer from Hollingbourne, Kent, and his mother, Cicely Culpeper. He inherited land at Milgate Park after his grandfather passed away. He held important roles in his local area, serving as High Sheriff of Kent in 1694. He also became a Deputy Lieutenant and a colonel in the local militia by 1701.

Political Career

William Cage first tried to become a Member of Parliament (MP) for Rochester in 1701, but he was not successful that time. However, he was elected as an MP for Rochester in 1702 and served until 1705.

He was elected again for Rochester in 1710. This was during a time when the Tory Party had a big win in the elections. He continued to serve as an MP until 1715, when he decided not to run for election again.

Family Life

William Cage was married to Catherine before 1690. Together, they had three sons and four daughters.

He passed away at the age of 71, after spending many years away from politics.
