Sir William Pratt Call, 2nd Baronet (born September 28, 1781 – died December 3, 1851) was an important figure known for his role as the High Sheriff of Cornwall and for being a partner in a London bank. He was part of a well-known family and lived during a time of big changes in Britain.

Early Life and Family

William Pratt Call was born in 1781. He was the fifth child and second son of Sir John Call of Whiteford, who was the 1st Baronet. His mother was Philadelphia Batty. The family lived in Cornwall, England.

Education and Becoming a Baronet

William went to Winchester College from 1797 to 1799. This was a famous school. When his father passed away on March 1, 1801, William became the 2nd Baronet Call. A Baronet is a special title, like a knight, that can be passed down in a family.

Family Life

On June 19, 1806, William Pratt Call married Louisa Georgina Forbes. They had four children: three daughters and one son. Their children were Phillida Elizabeth, Georgiana Mary, William Berkeley Call, and Augusta. His son, William Berkeley Call, later became the 3rd Baronet. The family title, or "Baronetcy," ended when the fourth Baronet, William George Montagu Call, died in 1864.

Career and Public Service

Sir William Pratt Call was involved in both public service and business.

High Sheriff of Cornwall

From 1807 to 1808, he held the important position of High Sheriff of Cornwall. The High Sheriff was a key official in the county, responsible for law and order. This role showed his importance in the local community.

Banking Business

Sir William was also a partner in a London banking house called Call, Marten & Company. This bank was started by his father. Being a banker meant he helped manage money and loans, which was a very important job in the growing economy of the 1800s.

Besides his work, Sir William Pratt Call also enjoyed sports.

Cricket Player

He played first-class cricket in 1817 and 1818. He was a member of the famous Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which is still a very important cricket club today. This shows he had interests outside of his official duties.

Later Life

Sir William Pratt Call lived to be 70 years old. He passed away on December 3, 1851, at Whiteford House in Stoke Climsland, Cornwall.
