The company was started by a man named William Jackson. He was born in a place called Elstronwick. In 1851, he opened his very first shop. This shop was in Hull, at 28 Scale Lane. At first, he sold groceries and tea to people.
Growing the Business
William Jackson's company grew over the years. They opened their first bakery in 1891. The main Jackson's bakery they use today opened in 1907. It is located on Derringham Street.
The Famous Aunt Bessie's
In 1968, the company found a way to make Yorkshire puddings for sale. These are a popular British food. In 1974, a holiday company called Butlin's asked them to make Yorkshire puddings for their camps. This led to the creation of the famous Aunt Bessie's brand. By 2016, Aunt Bessie's was making about 20 million Yorkshire puddings every week!
Changes Over Time
The company has bought and sold different parts of its business. In 2004, they sold their chain of 114 convenience stores. These shops were called Jacksons Stores. They were sold to another big company called Sainsbury's. In 2012, William Jackson Food Group bought a company called Abel & Cole. They also bought The Food Doctor in 2016. Later, in 2018, they sold the Aunt Bessie's brand to Nomad Foods.
