William Winlaw facts for kids
William Winlaw was a clever inventor from England in the 1700s. He designed and built special machines for farms. His factory was in London, a big city in England.
Winlaw made many tools and machines that helped farmers grow crops and care for their animals. He invented new things and even got patents for them. A patent meant his ideas were officially his own.
Some of his cool inventions included:
- A machine to separate grain from corn.
- A special spring and part for farm tools called a whippletree.
- A syringe, like a big squirty tool, for watering plants and flowers.
When William Winlaw passed away in 1796, people called him the "Engine-maker to the Prince of Wales and Duke of Clarence." These were Prince George and Prince William, who later became King George IV and King William IV. Winlaw's official will, which is a document about his belongings, is kept safe in the National Archives in the United Kingdom.
