Williamsburg Outlet Mall facts for kids
Williamsburg Outlet Mall was a big shopping center in Williamsburg, Virginia. It was first called Outlets Ltd. This mall was huge, about 250,000 square feet, which is like 4 football fields! It had 40 different stores where people could find good deals. The mall opened its doors in 1983.
Why Did the Mall Close?
Over many years, fewer and fewer people came to shop at the Williamsburg Outlet Mall. Because of this, the mall finally closed down in late 2013. Most of the stores that were there moved to another popular shopping spot nearby called Williamsburg Premium Outlets.
What Replaced the Mall?
After the mall closed, there was a plan to build something new in its place. A group of developers decided to create a new shopping area called a marketplace. This new marketplace opened in 2016. It cost about $25 million to build and is 131,000 square feet. It has stores like Harris Teeter and Walgreens, which are popular places for people to shop for groceries and other items.
