Willie Brady (born 15 July 1930 – died 27 March 1969) was a famous Irish singer. He sang traditional Irish songs called ballads and also country music. Willie was very popular in Ireland and other countries like the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. He recorded more than 20 albums, which is a lot of music! He became well-known for his songs even before Irish ballads became super popular.

Early Life and Career

Willie Brady was born in a town called Dún Laoghaire in Ireland. His family was involved in theater, so he grew up around music and performing.

In 1950, Willie started his singing career on the radio. He appeared on Radio Éireann, which was Ireland's national radio station. He became a regular guest on popular shows like Take the Floor and Ranch-house Revels.

Recording Success

In the late 1950s, Willie signed a contract with Avoca Records. This was an Irish-American music company. He recorded his first two albums with them. These albums were called Songs from Erin's Green Shore and The Homes of Donegal & Other Irish Ballads.

Over the next few years, Willie's music became very popular. People in Britain and the United States loved his songs. He traveled a lot, performing concerts and recording many more albums.

Later Life

Sadly, in 1968, Willie became very ill with a kidney problem. He needed a special operation called a transplant. He passed away the next year, in 1969, when he was only 38 years old. He left behind his wife and four young children.

Willie Brady also had a famous family member. His niece, Anne Byrne, became a well-known folk singer in the 1960s. She sang with a group called The Abbey Tavern musicians in Howth, County Dublin.
