The Story of Winnipeg's Most
Starting with "Northside Connection"
In June 2010, Winnipeg's Most shared their first project, a mixtape called "Northside Connection". A mixtape is like a collection of songs released before a main album. After that, they released two songs, "All That I Know" and "On These Streets," to a Winnipeg radio station called Streetz FM.
These songs quickly became number one on the station's top 10 chart. The mixtape was downloaded thousands of times by fans. Music videos for these first songs were made by Stuey Kubrick and were even shown on Canada's Much Music channel.
Their First Album: "Winnipeg's Most"
For their first official album, Winnipeg's Most worked with talented producers named Stomp and Jay Mak from RezOfficial Music. These producers had even been nominated for a Juno Award, which is a big music award in Canada!
The album came out in 2010 under the group's own label, Heatbag Records, with RezOfficial Music. The album featured other artists like Kobe, Ed E Buk, and Zeek Illa. It included hit songs such as "All That I Know," "On These Streetz," and "What You In It For." Another producer, Boogey the Beat, helped create a song called "It's A Jungle Out Here." This album helped the group win three Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards.
Their Second Album: "Goodfellaz"
Winnipeg's Most released their second album, titled Goodfellaz, in 2011. This album also came out under their Heatbag Records label. It featured many guest artists, including Krizz Kaliko, The Rupness Monster, Ed E Buk, Zeek Illa, Bubblz, Big Slim, and Inez.
Goodfellaz was a huge success! It won six Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards. These awards included "Best Duo or Group," "Best Producer/Engineer," "Best Music Video," "Best Album Cover Design," "Best Rap/Hip-hop CD," and "Single of the Year" for their song "Don't Stop."
The Group Ends and a Sad Loss
Winnipeg's Most stopped making music together after 2013. Sadly, on September 22, 2015, Jamie Prefontaine, who was known as Brooklyn in the group, passed away at 30 years old.
Heatbag Records: The Group's Own Label
Heatbag Records was a music label run by the three members of Winnipeg's Most. Through this label, they released music not only for themselves but also for other artists. Some of the artists who released music through Heatbag Records include Bubblz, Ashley Blakk, the Rupness Monster, Blu, Zeek Illa n the River City Knight Ryderz, Jay Bird, Stattis, Drezus, Kid P, KiDD Kane, and Charlie Stumble.
