Wisconsin Golf Hall of Fame facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Wisconsin Golf Hall of Fame was created in 1964 by the Wisconsin State Golf Association (WSGA). It was made to honor amazing amateur golfers who helped the game of golf grow in Wisconsin. The first five people to join this special group were E.P. "Ned" Allis, Dick Cavanagh, Lynford Lardner, Billy Sixty, Sr., and Wilford Wehrle. These people were like "legends" in Wisconsin golf.

Later, in 1975, the rules for joining the Hall of Fame changed. This allowed professional golfers, women, and players from public golf courses to be considered. The first woman to be inducted was Joyce Ziske Malison. In 1980, Archie Dadian became the first player from a public course to join. He played at Whitnall Park GC.

Today, you can see special plaques for everyone in the Hall of Fame. These plaques show what each person achieved and have their picture. They are on display at Golf House of Wisconsin in West Allis.

How Do People Get Into the Hall of Fame?

A special committee from the WSGA decides who gets into the Hall of Fame. This committee includes WSGA leaders, golf professionals, women golfers, public links players, and people from the media. They meet every year to look at possible new members.

To be considered, a person must have an amazing golf record. They also need to have helped the game of golf in a big way. All candidates must be at least 40 years old. They also need to get at least 75% of the committee's votes to be chosen.
