Wish-Bone facts for kids
Wish-Bone is a popular American brand that makes salad dressings, marinades, and dips. You might have seen their famous Italian dressing!
This brand started from a family recipe. In 1945, a former soldier named Phillip Sollomi opened the Wishbone restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri. He did this with his mother, Lena Sollomi. The restaurant served a special Italian dressing. This dressing was based on a recipe from Lena Sollomi's family in Sicily, Italy. It was a mix of oil, vinegar, herbs, and spices.
People loved the dressing so much that they wanted to buy it! Phillip started making it in large amounts to sell. In 1958, a big company called Lipton bought the Wish-Bone brand. Lipton is part of an even larger company called Unilever. Wish-Bone products continued to be made in the Kansas City area. Later, in 2013, Pinnacle Foods bought Wish-Bone from Unilever. Then, on October 26, 2018, ConAgra bought Pinnacle Foods, which included the Wish-Bone brand.
