Wombling Songs is the very first music album released by The Wombles. The Wombles are lovable, furry creatures from a popular British children's television show. They live on Wimbledon Common in London and are famous for picking up litter and making good use of it.
The songs on this album were all written, arranged, and performed by Mike Batt. He was the main singer, and he also worked with many talented musicians. These musicians played instruments like guitars, bass, drums, and piano. The singing was credited to "the younger Wombles," with Mike Batt helping out.
Mike Batt once said that the album was mostly made up of character songs and background music for the TV show. Even so, Wombling Songs became very popular! It spent 17 weeks on the UK album charts and reached its highest spot at number 19 in March 1974.
