The Woodbury–Story House is a special building in Altadena, California. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which means it's an important historical site. This house was added to the list in 1993. It shows off two cool building styles: Italianate and Colonial Revival architecture. The house is also famous because it belonged to Captain Frederick Woodbury, one of the people who helped start the town of Altadena.
History of the House
This amazing house was built in 1882. It was made for Captain Frederick Woodbury and his wife, Martha. The house was the main building for a large ranch. This ranch even had a two-story bunkhouse for the workers.
The land around the house was used for farming. Captain Woodbury planted many citrus trees and grapevines. He also planted the tall deodar cedar trees. These trees now line Santa Rosa Avenue. This street is also known as Christmas Tree Lane. It is another famous historical site.
In 1892, Captain Woodbury sold the house to a man named Walker. Then, in 1894, Hampton L. Story bought the house. After Story passed away, the house was used for many different things. It became a coffee shop, a sheriff's station, and even a fire engine house. It was also an office building and a tea house.
The House on TV
The Woodbury–Story House has been a filming spot for TV shows. It was used in an episode of American Horror Story. The episode was called "Winter of Discontent". It aired on October 24, 2017, on the FX channel.
The house was also featured on the show Ghost Adventures. This show explores places that are said to be haunted. The episode about the house was called "The Woodbury: Home of American Horror Story". It was shown on the Travel Channel in 2019.
