Woody Island is a small island located about 25 kilometers (about 15 miles) northeast of Port Douglas. It is found in Trinity Bay, which is part of Far North Queensland, Australia.

Woody Island is part of a group called the Low Isles, along with its neighbor, Low Island. Woody Island itself is not home to people. It is made up of coral and mangroves.

Discovering the Low Isles

The Low Isles are a special place because they are part of a Marine National Park Zone. This means the area is protected to keep its natural beauty safe. Many visitors come to explore these islands each day. They usually arrive by boat with different tour companies.

Exploring the Lagoon and Reef

Near the islands, there is a calm area of water called a lagoon. Private boats can anchor here overnight, but there are no hotels or places to stay on the island itself. Low Island has a lighthouse and a weather station. People called caretakers live on Low Island all the time. They help look after both Woody Island and Low Island.

Fun Activities and Rules

The main activity people enjoy here is snorkeling. The coral reefs around the islands are amazing and full of colorful sea creatures. To protect this beautiful environment, there are some important rules.

  • You cannot fish in the lagoon or in the areas close to the islands.
  • Water sports that use motors are not allowed.
  • You cannot have fires or barbecues on either island.
  • Dogs are also not allowed on the islands.

These rules help make sure that the coral, fish, and plants stay healthy for everyone to enjoy.
