Wurreranginy, also called Frog Hollow, is a small Aboriginal community. It is about 30 kilometers south of Warmun in the Kimberley region. This area is in Western Australia, within the Shire of Halls Creek.
History of Wurreranginy
The first people living in Frog Hollow moved to Wurreranginy in 1981. They came from Guda Guda, which is near Wyndham. Before that, in the early 1970s, they had to leave the cattle stations where they lived and work. The people of Wurreranginy speak the Kija language. The community includes adults, older people, and children.
Education in the Community
Children who live in Wurreranginy go to the Purnululu Aboriginal Independent Community School. This school has about 50 students from kindergarten up to Year 10. It also has a special center for very young children, from birth to three years old.
How Wurreranginy is Managed
The community is managed by a group called the Wurreranginy Aboriginal Corporation. This group was officially formed on May 28, 1986. They follow rules set by the Aboriginal Councils and Associations Act 1976. This helps the community run smoothly and make decisions together.
