XIT is a cool rock band made up of Native American musicians. Their name, XIT, stands for "Crossing of Indian Tribes." They became famous in the 1970s and released music on the Rare Earth label. About XIT

XIT first started in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The band was founded by A. Michael Martinez, who sang and played lead guitar. Mac Suazo played bass and was the narrator. Lee Herrerra played drums, and R. C. Gariss played a second lead guitar.

The Band's Journey

Later, some of the band members included Willie Bluehouse Johnson on lead guitar, P.J. West on drums, Louie Running Wolf on bass guitar, and Jim Boyd on lead guitar. Obie Sullivan played keyboards with the band from 1971 to 1975.

Their Music and Message

The band's name, "XIT," means "crossing of Indian Tribes," according to Tom Bee. Their songs often talk about important topics for Native Americans, both from history and today. Their first big album, released in 1972, was called Plight of the Redman. It was a special kind of album called a concept album. This album told a story about how Native American life changed after Columbus arrived.
