X'box (pronounced like "sh-bosh") is a small town in the Mexican state of Yucatán. It's also sometimes called X-box or simply Xbox. This town is part of the Chacsinkín area.

In the year 2000, X'box had a population of 229 people. There were 123 men and 106 women living in 36 homes.

What's in a Name?

The name X'box comes from an old local story. People say a woman dressed in black once appeared near the town's well. In the Yucatan Maya language, 'X-box' means "black."

This town's name has caught a lot of attention! That's because it sounds just like the popular Xbox video game console. However, a newspaper called Vanguardia once pointed out something funny: there were no Xbox consoles in X'box!

Life in X'box

Most people living in X'box work in nearby Chacsinkín. Others work on local farms right in the town.

These farms grow different kinds of food. They produce tasty avocados and pumpkins. They also grow a leafy green vegetable called chaya. Besides plants, the farms also raise animals like chickens and pigs.
