Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Xiaoying (Maggie) Han is a smart Chinese mathematician. She studies how things change over time in ways that are a bit random, like predicting weather or stock markets. She also looks at how math can help with things like insurance and money, which is called actuarial science. Currently, she is a special professor of mathematics at Auburn University.

Becoming a Math Expert

Maggie Han started her journey in math at the University of Science and Technology of China, where she finished her first degree in 2001. She then moved to the University at Buffalo in the United States to continue her studies. In 2007, she earned her Ph.D., which is the highest university degree. Her big research project was about how thin layers of materials mix together.

After finishing her studies, Dr. Han joined the teaching staff at Auburn University in 2007. She worked hard and became a full professor in 2017. A year later, in 2018, she was given a special title: the Marguerite Scharnagle Endowed Professorship. This means she holds a very important and respected position at the university.

In 2020, Dr. Han was honored with a Fulbright Scholar award. This special award helped her travel to Brazil in 2021 to do more research.

Books by Dr. Han

Dr. Han has also written several books to share her knowledge with others. She has co-authored three books that help students and other mathematicians learn about complex math topics:

  • Applied Nonautonomous and Random Dynamical Systems (written with T. Caraballo, published in 2016)
  • Attractors Under Discretisation (written with P. E. Kloeden, published in 2017)
  • Random Ordinary Differential Equations and Their Numerical Solution (written with P. E. Kloeden, published in 2017)
