Xiomara De Oliver was born in 1967. Her birthplace was Grand Forks, British Columbia, Canada. She went to California State University, Sacramento. In 1988, she earned a degree in criminal law. Later, in 1997, De Oliver studied at New York University (NYU). There, she earned a degree in studio art and environmental art. In 2006, she received a special award. This award was a grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation.
Her Art and Career
De Oliver's artwork looks at the experiences of Black and African American women. She often paints in a style called abstract expressionism. This means her paintings use colors and shapes to show feelings. Her art is displayed in famous museums. These include the Museum of Modern Art and the Studio Museum in Harlem.
