Xiomara De Oliver (born in 1967) is a talented artist from Canada. She is known for creating beautiful paintings that explore important topics for Black women. Today, she lives and works in Marina del Rey, California.
Growing Up and Learning
Xiomara De Oliver was born in 1967 in a place called Grand Forks, British Columbia, in Canada. She went to college at California State University, Sacramento. In 1988, she finished her studies there, focusing on criminal law. Later, in 1997, Xiomara went to New York University (NYU). There, she earned a degree in studio art and environmental art. In 2006, Xiomara De Oliver received a special award from the Joan Mitchell Foundation.
Her Art and What It Means
Xiomara De Oliver's artwork looks at the experiences and feelings of Black and African American women. She often paints in a style called Abstract expressionism. This means she uses colors and shapes to show feelings and ideas, rather than painting realistic pictures. Her amazing art can be seen in important public museums. These include the Museum of Modern Art and the Studio Museum in Harlem.
