Xu Xin's Table Tennis Journey
Xu Xin started his international career in 2007. That year, he played in his first World Championships. He reached the round of 16 in the doubles event. Over the next few years, he played in many international competitions. He quickly became one of the top 10 players in the world.
Becoming a World Champion
In 2010, Xu Xin joined the Chinese team for the World Team Championships. They won the gold medal together. The next year, in 2011, he won another gold medal in doubles. He also reached the round of 16 in the singles category. In 2012, his team won gold at the World Championships again. Later that year, he played in the World Cup and finished in fourth place.
Reaching World Number One
In January 2013, Xu Xin achieved a big goal. He became the world's number one table tennis player for the first time! At the World Championships that same year, he won a bronze medal in singles. He lost to another great player, Zhang Jike, in the semifinals.
Xu Xin also won the World Cup by defeating Vladimir Samsonov in the final. With his team, he won both the World Championships and the Asian Games. He was ranked number one in the world again from March 2014 to March 2015.
More Gold Medals and Olympic Success
At the 2015 World Championships, Xu Xin competed in three events. He lost in the round of 16 in singles. But he won gold medals in both the mixed doubles and men's doubles categories.
In 2016, Xu Xin won his fourth team gold medal at the World Championships. He did not play in the singles event at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. However, he won a gold medal with the Chinese team! Later that year, he reached the final of the World Cup but lost to Fan Zhendong.
In 2017, at the World Championships, he reached the semifinals in singles. He also won another gold medal in doubles. In 2018, Xu Xin and his team won gold again at the World Team Cup.
