Yasuhiko Funago (born October 4, 1957) is a Japanese politician. He is currently a member of the House of Councillors, which is part of Japan's national parliament. In 2019, Mr. Funago and fellow councillor Eiko Kimura became the first people with severe disabilities to be elected to Japan's National Diet (parliament). He is a member of the Reiwa Shinsengumi political party.
Mr. Funago has a condition called ALS. This condition has caused him to lose much of his ability to move. Because of this, he needs a full-time helper, called a caregiver, to assist him every day.

Early Life and Dreams
Yasuhiko Funago was born in Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. When he was 10 years old, his family moved to Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture. He attended Chiba Minami Prefectural High School. After finishing high school, he went on to study at Takushoku University. He was part of the Faculty of Political Science and Economics.
Originally, Mr. Funago dreamed of becoming a professional musician. However, after graduating from university in 1982, he started working. He became an employee at Sakata Watch Trading Co., Ltd. A few years later, when he was 28 years old, he got married.
Becoming a Politician
Mr. Funago's journey into politics began later in his life. He decided to run for office to represent people, especially those with disabilities. His election in 2019 was a very important moment for Japan. It showed that people with severe disabilities can hold important positions in government.
As a member of the House of Councillors, Mr. Funago works to make laws. He focuses on issues that help people with disabilities. He also works to create a more inclusive society where everyone has a fair chance. His work helps to ensure that the voices of all citizens are heard in the government.
