Yasuhiko Funago (born October 4, 1957) is a Japanese politician. He is a member of the House of Councillors, which is part of Japan's parliament. In 2019, he made history. He and another politician, Eiko Kimura, were the first people with severe disabilities to be elected to Japan's parliament, called the National Diet.
Mr. Funago is part of a political group called the Reiwa Shinsengumi. He has a condition called ALS. This condition affects his movement a lot. Because of ALS, he needs help from a full-time caregiver.
Early Life of Yasuhiko Funago
Mr. Funago was born in Gifu City, Japan. When he was 10 years old, his family moved to Chiba City. He went to Chiba Minami Prefectural High School there. After high school, he studied at Takushoku University. He focused on political science and economics.
Originally, Mr. Funago dreamed of becoming a professional musician. However, after finishing university in 1982, he started working. He became an employee at Sakata Watch Trading Co., Ltd. A few years later, when he was 28, he got married.
