The Yellow Jackets Motorcycle Club, also known as YJMC, is an old American motorcycle club. They were officially started in 1947. In that same year, they joined the American Motorcyclist Association. The club was also part of a well-known event in 1947 called the Hollister Riot. This event was even shown in a movie called The Wild One.

Club History

The Yellow Jackets Motorcycle Club started in California. They are known as an "Original Motorcycle Club." This means they are one of the very first motorcycle clubs in the United States. Even though their exact start date is not known, they officially became a club in 1947. They also registered with the American Motorcyclist Association that same year. The Yellow Jackets MC is one of the oldest motorcycle clubs still active today.

The club members used to meet at a small place called The Crash Inn in Southern California. The owner of The Crash Inn was an honorary member. Many different motorcycle clubs would gather there. They would enjoy their time together. This was a very different time for motorcycle clubs.

The Hollister Event

The Yellow Jackets were present at the July 4th, 1947, "Gypsy Tour" in Hollister, California. This event became known as the Hollister Riot. It was later shown in the movie The Wild One. Some people see this event as the start of the "outlaw biker" image in America.

The Yellow Jackets MC is a club that has members all over the country. They have different groups, called chapters, in many cities. The club was formed because members loved riding and racing motorcycles. The Yellow Jackets, along with other early clubs, helped shape what modern American motorcycle clubs are like today. From its beginnings in California, the club grew and spread to other parts of the country.

Becoming a Member

To join the Yellow Jackets Motorcycle Club, there are a few steps. First, a person needs to have an American or allied motorcycle. This motorcycle must be 750cc or larger. They also need a valid driver's license and insurance. A current club member must also sponsor them.

After being invited to spend time with the club, a person is called a "hang-around." This means they can attend club events and get to know the members. If a hang-around fits in well and finds a sponsor, they might be invited to become a "prospect."

Prospecting

Prospective members wear a special patch that says "PROSPECT." They also wear a small tag with their name. This shows they are in a trial period. Once a prospect finishes this period, they are allowed to wear the club's full patches. As members stay with the club, they can earn more patches. These patches show their achievements within the club.

Club Colors

Yellow Jackets members can be recognized by their patches, also called "colors." Each set of patches includes all the letters that spell "Yellow Jackets MC." These letters are usually in a circle around a center patch. The patches worn by members are very important. Each patch has a special meaning. Members earn these patches through the prospecting process.
