Early Life and Education
Yolanda García Serrano first studied Public Relations. For a few years, she worked as a secretary. At the same time, she began to study Dramatic Arts. She quickly joined a theater group. There, she started writing short plays. First, she wrote for children, and then for adults.
She learned about writing plays from famous teachers. These included Fermín CabalJosé Luis Alonso de Santos. Later, she studied how to write for movies and television. She also learned about directing films. After this, she began writing for movies, TV, and the theater.

In 1986, one of her plays was chosen to be performed. It was called La llamada es del todo inadecuada. This play was part of a new project for Spanish theater. Her work was a type of play known as "theater of the absurd."
Yolanda started writing movie scripts with other writers. She worked with Joaquín Oristrell and Manolo MatjiMadrid.

Yolanda García Serrano became a professional screenwriter in 1988. She wrote for movies, TV shows, and series. From the start, she often worked with a team. This team included Manuel Gómez Pereira, Juan Luis Iborra, and Joaquín Oristrell.
In 1994, she and her team won the Goya Award for Best Original Screenplay. This was for the movie All Men Are the Same. She has written for popular TV series like Farmacia de guardia (1991–1995) and Fugitiva (2018). Her movie scripts include Love Can Seriously Damage Your Health (1997) and Queens (2005).
Directing and Awards
In 1997, Yolanda directed and wrote the movie Amor de hombre with Juan Luis Iborra. She later turned this movie into a novel. The film won an award at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. After some time away, she returned to theater in 1998. She wrote a comedy about marriage called Qué asco de amor. This play won the Hogar Sur de Teatro de Comedias Award.
In 2000, she worked with Juan Luis Iborra again. They directed and wrote Km. 0. This film won an award for best movie at the Torino Film Festival. Two years later, she directed her first movie by herself. It was a family comedy called Hasta aquí hemos llegado (2002).
Her play Ser o no ser Cervantes was shown in New York in 2010. It won three Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA) Awards. In 2011, she was the first Spanish woman to direct her own play in New York. It was called Good ... . Good day. Lo que ellos ignoran de ellas.
In 2013, she and Juan Carlos Rubio
won the Lope de Vega Award . This was for a play called Shakespeare nunca estuvo aquí. That same year, she was the artistic director for the Premios Max gala.Later Works and Achievements
Yolanda García Serrano often worked on comedies. She saw comedy as a way to deal with difficult parts of life. However, in 2016, she released her first drama. It was called ¡Corre! and she wrote it with Joaquín Oristrell. This play was based on her own experiences. In 2018, she won the National Dramatic Literature Award of Spain for ¡Corre!.
In 2017, her play Parapeto was a finalist in a playwriting tournament. She has also written short plays for micro-theater. Her daughter, Cora Tiedra, has acted in some of Yolanda's movies and TV shows.
