Yuri Aleksandrovich Zavadsky (Russian: Юрий Александрович Завадский) was a very important Russian theater director, actor, and teacher. He was born in Moscow on July 12, 1894, and passed away there on April 5, 1977. He received high honors for his work, like being named a People's Artist of the USSR in 1948 and a Hero of Socialist Labour in 1973. These titles showed how much he contributed to the arts and his country.

Yuri Zavadsky's Early Theater Days

Yuri Zavadsky learned a lot about acting and directing from a famous teacher named Yevgeny Vakhtangov. Vakhtangov was a very influential theater director. Yuri Zavadsky first appeared on stage as an actor in 1915. He played the character Anthony in a play called The Miracle of St. Anthony by Maurice Maeterlinck. This was at Vakhtangov's own theater.
