Title Chairman and CEO, Ubisoft

Yves Guillemot (born 21 July 1960) is a French businessman. He is famous for co-founding the video game company Ubisoft with his four brothers in March 1986. Today, he is the chairman and CEO of Ubisoft.

Early Life and Family Business

Yves Guillemot grew up in a small village in Brittany, France. His parents owned a business that helped farmers. Yves and his brothers helped with tasks like accounting, shipping, and deliveries.

When their family business faced challenges, Yves and his brothers looked for new ideas. His older brother found success selling music CDs. The family business, which used to sell chemicals and parts to farmers, started selling computers. Soon, they also began selling computer games. They discovered that their French supplier was charging them too much for games compared to prices in the United Kingdom. So, in 1984, they started their own business selling video games by mail order. This mail order business grew very quickly. Soon, they were selling games to stores, which were happy to buy games at better prices.

Starting Ubisoft

After Yves Guillemot finished his business degree, he and his brothers decided to create their own video game company. They founded Ubisoft in 1986. They saw a great chance in the growing video game industry and were very excited about making games.

As CEO, Guillemot has led Ubisoft through many changes. In January 2023, he sent an email to employees. He asked them to be careful with spending and to work efficiently. He also encouraged them to deliver new games on time and with high quality.

Other Companies

Yves Guillemot and his family have also been involved with other companies in the gaming world.
