Yvonne Daniels (born September 16, 1937 – died June 21, 1991) was a famous American radio host. She worked in Chicago from the 1960s until 1991. Yvonne was part of the first all-woman radio team in 1967. She was also the first woman radio host for the station WLS in 1973. After she passed away, she was honored in the National Radio Hall of Fame in 1995.

Early Life and School

Yvonne Daniels was born in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1937. Her father, Billy Daniels, was a singer. When she was a teenager, Yvonne started singing too. She also became a radio host for R&B music. Yvonne went to Stanton High School. She also studied at Tuskegee University.

Radio Career

In 1956, Yvonne Daniels began her radio career at WOBS in Jacksonville, Florida. Later, she moved to Illinois. She started working for WBBR in East St. Louis, Illinois, in the early 1960s. In 1962, she left WBBR and went back to WOBS for a short time.

In the mid-1960s, Yvonne moved to Chicago. She became a host for WYNR. In June 1965, she was hired to co-host a night show at WCFL. Yvonne stayed at WCFL until 1964. Then she moved to WSDM. At WSDM, she was part of the station's first ever all-woman radio team. This team worked together until 1972.

The next year, in 1973, Yvonne made history. She became the first woman DJ for the station WLS. In 1982, Yvonne joined WVON as a radio host during busy "drive time" hours. In 1984, WVON changed its name to WGCI-AM. Yvonne then moved to host the afternoon show. She worked at WGCI until 1989. After that, she became the morning host for WNUA.

Passing Away

Yvonne Daniels passed away on June 21, 1991. She died in Chicago, Illinois, from breast cancer.

Awards and Special Honors

After Yvonne Daniels passed away, she received special honors. In 1991, a part of the Dearborn Street Bridge in Chicago was named Yvonne Daniels Way to remember her. In 1995, she was honored again. She was officially added to the National Radio Hall of Fame. This is a very special award for people who have done amazing things in radio.
