Zachary Parker is a teacher and an American politician. He is currently a member of the Council of the District of Columbia. He represents an area called Ward 5 and has done so since January 2023.
Early Life and School
Zachary Parker was born in Chicago, Illinois. He went to Northwestern University and earned a bachelor's degree. Later, he studied at Columbia University and received a master's degree in Education Policy and Leadership.
His Career Journey
Parker started his career as a math teacher with an organization called Teach for America. In 2018, he won his first election. He became a member of the State Board of Education for Ward 5. In 2021, he was chosen to be the president of the State Board of Education.
Serving on the City Council
In 2022, Zachary Parker was elected to the Council of the District of Columbia. He won against several other candidates, including a former councilman named Vincent Orange. Parker took over the seat from Kenyan McDuffie, who was elected to a different council position. Since 2025, Parker has been the leader of the Committee on Youth Affairs on the Council. This committee focuses on issues important to young people.
