Zainab Tari facts for kids
Zainab Tari Soomro (Sindhi: زينب تاري, Urdu: زينب تاری) was a powerful queen who ruled Sindh, a region in what is now Pakistan. She was queen for ten years, from 1092 AD to 1102 AD. Zainab Tari was special because she was the only queen who ever ruled Sindh completely on her own.
Early Life and Training
Zainab Tari was the daughter of King Asamuddin Daula Dodo Soomro. He was a ruler from the Soomro Dynasty. Her father became king of Sindh in 1064 or 1065 AD. He was known as Dodo-I.
King Dodo-I did not have any sons at first. So, he made sure his daughter, Princess Zainab, was ready to rule. He gave her special teachers. These teachers taught her how to govern the kingdom. They also taught her how to protect it from enemies. This training was very important because enemies had attacked the city of Mansura before.
Becoming Queen
King Dodo-I ruled Sindh for 15 years. During this time, he had a son named Shahabuddin Sanghar. Even though he had a son, King Dodo-I decided to step down from the throne in 1092 AD. He wanted to live a quiet life.
Since his son, Shahabuddin Sanghar, was still a child, King Dodo-I chose his daughter, Princess Zainab Tari, to rule. The group of important ministers and leaders agreed with the king's choice. They crowned Princess Zainab Tari as the new Queen of Sindh.
Her Reign and Legacy
During Queen Zainab Tari's ten years as ruler, Sindh was peaceful. No foreign armies attacked the kingdom. The capital city, Tharri, grew bigger. Trade with other countries also increased, which was good for the kingdom.
After ruling for ten years, Queen Zainab Tari followed the rules of succession. This meant it was time for her younger brother, Sanghar, to become king. So, Sanghar was crowned the new King of Sindh. Queen Zainab Tari then chose to live a private family life.
