Zapicán is a small village located in the country of Uruguay. It is found in the northwest part of the Lavalleja Department. This quiet village is known for its history and its location near important routes.
Where is Zapicán?
Zapicán is located where two roads meet: Route 14 and Route 40. This spot is about 24 kilometers (about 15 miles) east of another town called José Batlle y Ordoñez. The village sits at an elevation of 231 meters (about 758 feet) above sea level. A railroad track, which connects Montevideo to Río Branco, also runs along the southern edge of the village.
A Look at History
Zapicán was first started by a person named Pablo Fernández. This happened in September 1891. Later, on June 9, 1913, it was officially declared a "Pueblo," which means village. This happened because of a special law called Ley Nº 4.337.
