Zophar Carpenter was the person who built Carpenter's Fort. He was originally from the New York colony. In the 1750s, he moved to western Virginia. Later, around 1788, he moved again to Kentucky.

Life and Legacy

Zophar Carpenter was a drummer during the French and Indian War. He served in Captain Dickenson's Company of Virginia Rangers. In 1792, his name appeared on a tax list in Madison County, Kentucky. Other Carpenters, Edward and John, were also on this list. Zophar Carpenter passed away on February 6, 1798, when he was 65 years old. He is buried in the Carpenter Graveyard near Paint Lick, in Garrard County, Kentucky.
