About Zorgamazoo
The Story
The story is about a brave young girl named Katrina Katrell. She runs away from her home because her guardian threatens her with a strange and scary medical procedure.
She finds a hiding place underground. There, she meets Mortimer Yorgle. He is one of the "zorgles," a group of creatures who live beneath the ground.
Mortimer isn't the best at solving mysteries. But he has been sent on an important mission. He needs to find out what happened to the missing zorgles from a place called Zorgamazoo.
Awards and Recognition
Zorgamazoo has won several important awards. In 2009, it was named an E.B. White Honor Book. This award celebrates books that are great for reading aloud.
The book also won the California Young Reader Medal. It received the Children's Choice Award and the Silver Birch Award. The Silver Birch Award is given by the Ontario Library Association.
Many magazines and groups also praised the book. Booklist Magazine called it one of the top ten new books of 2008. The Children's Literature Assembly also listed it as a notable book in 2009.
