Álvaro Arias was born in Oviedo, a city in Spain. His family also has roots in Felechosa, a town in Asturias. He studied at the University of Oviedo, where he earned degrees in Spanish language and literature. He also completed his PhD in Spanish linguistics there.

Today, Álvaro Arias is a professor of Spanish language at the University of Oviedo. He writes about how languages are structured and how they are used in different places. He pays special attention to the Spanish, Galician, and Asturian languages. He has written over 30 articles and book chapters. He has also edited or written several books on these subjects.

He has also explored the history of language studies. He has found and published old writings in Asturian from the 1700s and 1800s, making them available for people to read today.

Awards and Recognition

Álvaro Arias has received several awards for his academic work. One of these is the Damaso Alonso Prize for Philological Research, which recognizes important studies in language.
