The school's history goes way back to 1819. Back then, there were schools for naval officers called "Maistrance" schools. Over the years, these schools changed and merged. In 1971, several schools joined together to form ENSIETA. This new school was created to train engineers for the French Ministry of Defense.
At first, ENSIETA trained only military engineers. But in 1988, it started to welcome civilian students too. More and more civilian students joined in the 1990s. In December 2010, ENSIETA changed its name to ENSTA Bretagne. It also became a founding member of the ENSTA Group, which aims to attract more talented engineering students.
Working with Other Schools
ENSTA Bretagne has a special partnership with IMT Atlantique. This partnership started in 2017. It helps both schools work together on many things. Becoming a General Engineer
Most students at ENSTA Bretagne aim to become general engineers. Each year, about 180 students join this program. About 85% are civilians, and 15% are military. The engineering degrees from ENSTA Bretagne are officially recognized. They also have a special European label called EURACE.
