Ümgülsüm Sadıqzadə began writing poems around 1918 to 1920. She was a strong supporter of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. This was a very important time for Azerbaijan. It was the first democratic republic in the Muslim world. She used her writing to share her feelings.

Ümgülsüm Sadıqzadə was married to Seyid Hussein. He was also a well-known writer. He was a cousin of Mammad Amin Rasulzadeh, a famous figure in Azerbaijan's history. Both Ümgülsüm and Seyid Hussein faced difficult times because of the political changes happening then.
