About Đan Trường
His Early Life
Đan Trường was born on November 29, 1976, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. His parents were factory workers. He is the youngest child and the only son in his family. His parents gave him the nickname Mr. Bo (anh Bo). This nickname reminded them of tough times when they had to eat a grain called adlay because rice was too expensive.
Đan Trường loved singing from a young age. He was inspired by a famous singer named Lê Tuấn. Lê Tuấn was known as the "prince of light music" in the 1980s. Đan Trường even adopted a similar brushed hair style, which became his signature look. He also often wears white clothes on stage, a style sometimes compared to church symphonies.
Đan Trường started his professional singing career in 1996. At first, he joined a company but didn't get many chances to perform. After six months, his contract ended. He felt a bit sad and even thought about moving to Phnom Penh to find work.
However, while working as a carpenter, he decided to enter a singing contest. In 1997, he won second prize in "The Voice of District 10" in Ho Chi Minh City. This led him to sign a special contract with HT Production. He became famous for songs that mixed Chinese music with Vietnamese lyrics. Two of his most popular early songs were "Kiep Ve Sau" and "Di Ve Noi Xa." These songs helped him win the Favorite Artist award at the Green Wave Awards.
His Peak Career Years
In the 2000s, Đan Trường released many successful albums. Some popular ones include Bong Dang Thien Than (2000) and Loi Ru Tinh (2001). He was one of the first Vietnamese artists to buy the rights to songs. This helped him create his unique music style and image. He sings many types of music, like Canto-pop, pop ballads, and traditional folk songs.
Throughout his career, Đan Trường has won many important music awards. He was the first artist to win the Artist of The Year award and Favorite Artist award seven times in a row at the Green Wave Awards. He also won six Golden Blossom Awards and the Favorite Male Artist Award three times at the HTV Awards. He has received other awards like Platinum Star and VTV - My Favorite Song. He was even nominated for Singer of The Year at the Music Dedication Award.
Đan Trường also represented Vietnam at the Asian Pop Music Concert in South Korea in 2016. He has been a coach and judge on many TV shows, helping new singers. He is also an actor and has appeared in movies like Vo Lam Truyen Ky (2007) and Thu Ba Hoc Tro (2009). He was chosen as a "Tourism Representative" for Taiwan in 2005 and a "Tourism Ambassador" for Holland in Vietnam in 2007.
Recent Years
In 2013, Đan Trường married Trịnh Thủy Tiên, a Vietnamese-American businesswoman. They have a son named Mathis Phạm Thiên Từ. After they divorced in 2021, Đan Trường decided to sing less often. He wanted to spend more time taking care of his son.
He often shares sweet moments with his son on YouTube. Because of this, Mathis became known as one of the youngest YouTubers in Vietnam for a while. In 2022, videos of Đan Trường and his son were even called some of the best content to help people feel better during the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam.
In 2024, some people online talked about Đan Trường using AI (Artificial Intelligence) in a music video. They said it made his face look younger than his real age.
