Ákos Kriza (born February 10, 1965 – died January 18, 2021) was an important politician from Hungary. He was a member of the Fidesz political party. He is best known for being the mayor of Miskolc, a city in Hungary, from October 3, 2010, to October 13, 2019.

Life and Career
Early Life and Education
Ákos Kriza was born in Oradea, a city in Romania. He studied medicine at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Târgu Mureș. He also studied economics at the University of West Hungary.
He earned his medical degree in 1990. In the same year, he moved to Miskolc, Hungary. He worked at the Diósgyőr Hospital and then as a general doctor. In 1999, he became a hospital manager.
Becoming Mayor of Miskolc
Ákos Kriza joined the Fidesz political party in 1997. He first ran for mayor of Miskolc in 2006 but lost to the mayor who was already in office, Sándor Káli.
In April 2010, his party had a big win in the national elections. This helped him in the local elections held later that year. He was elected mayor of Miskolc, defeating Sándor Káli.
He was elected mayor again in the 2014 Hungarian local elections. He received more than 42% of the votes. He won against other candidates like Albert Pásztor, a former police official, and Péter Jakab.
Later Years and Retirement
On August 9, 2019, Ákos Kriza announced he would not run for mayor again. He made this decision because of a long-term illness.
His party, Fidesz, then nominated Zoltán Alakszai to be their candidate for mayor. However, Zoltán Alakszai lost to Pál Veres. Pál Veres was a local school headmaster and a candidate supported by several different political groups in the 2019 Hungarian local elections.
Family and Later Life
Ákos Kriza was married to Zsuzsanna László. They had two children, a daughter named Anna and a son named Áron.
Ákos Kriza passed away on January 18, 2021. He was 55 years old and had been ill for a long time.
