Ángel María Cortellini Hernández (born in 1819, died in 1887) was a talented Spanish painter. He was famous for his portraits and historical scenes. He even won a gold medal at a big art show for his painting called Retrato de señora.

Life of Ángel María Cortellini

Ángel María Cortellini Hernández was born in 1819. His hometown was Sanlúcar de Barrameda in Spain. His father was from Italy, and his mother was from Spain.

Ángel started learning to draw when he was very young. He later became a student of a famous artist, Joaquín Domínguez Bécquer. When he was 17, he traveled to Italy to see more art. He visited cities like Turin, Milan, and Genoa.

After two years, he returned to Seville, Spain. He continued his art studies at the Seville Royal Academy of Fine Arts. In 1847, he moved to Madrid and lived there permanently.

The next year, he showed his art at important exhibitions. In 1850, he became an honorary court painter. This meant he was a special artist for the royal family. He painted portraits of Queen Isabel II and her husband.

Ángel María Cortellini won several awards for his art. In 1866, he received a gold medal. This was for his painting Retrato de señora at the National Exhibition. This was a very important art show in Spain.

He won another gold medal in 1871. This time, it was for his painting La batalla de Wad-Ras. Ángel María Cortellini passed away in Madrid in 1887.
