Ángel Valbuena Prat (born May 16, 1900, died January 2, 1977) was a Spanish expert in language and literature (called a philologist) and a historian. He was famous for his deep knowledge of Spanish literature and theater.
About Ángel Valbuena Prat
Ángel Valbuena Prat was born in Barcelona, Spain. He studied at the University of Barcelona. Later, he became an assistant professor at the Central University of Madrid.
He wrote a very important paper for his advanced degree. It was called Los Autos Sacramentales de Calderón. This paper won him many awards. After teaching at several universities, he moved to the University of Murcia. He taught there for over 25 years.
His most important work is his History of Spanish Literature. It was first published in 1937. Many experts thought this book was very new and exciting. It was printed eight times, with the last edition in 1968. Each new edition was updated. This book made Valbuena Prat one of the most respected literary historians of his time. He also became one of the greatest Spanish historians of theater.
Besides this main work, Valbuena Prat wrote many other studies. These were all about Spanish literature. Some of his famous works include Some Aspects of Modern Canary Poetry (1926) and History of Spanish Theater (1956). He also edited many plays by Pedro Calderón de la Barca. Calderón was the subject of his first big paper.
Valbuena Prat also wrote novels. These included Teófilo (1926) and 2+4 (1927). He also published poetry books, like Dios sobre la muerte (1939).
