Early Life and Career

Ángel de Peredo started his career in government. He became the President of the Royal Audiencia of Chile. This was like being the head judge and a top official in Chile.

Governor of Chile

Peredo then became the temporary Royal Governor of Chile. This was from May 1662 to February 1664. During his time as governor, he helped build a new city.

Founding Lota

He founded a city called Santa Maria de Guadalupe. This city was near a fort named San Miguel Arcángel de Colcura. This area is now close to the modern city of Lota in Chile.

Challenges and Changes

After Peredo's time as governor, a new governor arrived. His name was Francisco de Meneses Brito. Meneses accused Peredo of making unfair decisions. He said Peredo created too many jobs for officials. He also claimed Peredo sold these jobs.

Meneses ordered Peredo's arrest. But Peredo managed to escape from Chile. Meneses also caused trouble for Peredo's friends. One friend was Alonso de Solórzano y Velasco. He was a judge who disagreed with Meneses. Meneses removed him from his job and sent him away.

Governor of Tucumán

Later, Peredo became the governor of Tucumán Province. This was between 1670 and 1674. In 1673, he led a large group of soldiers. They went on an expedition against some local tribes. These tribes, like the Mocoví, had been raiding the province.
