What is a Royal Governor?

A Royal Governor was like the main boss of a colony. They were chosen by the King of Spain to manage the land, people, and resources. Their job was to make sure the colony followed Spanish laws and that everything ran smoothly. An "interim" governor is someone who takes over for a short time until a permanent leader is chosen.

First Time as Interim Governor (1662)

In 1662, the Royal Governor of Chile, Pedro Porter Casanate, died. This left the colony without a leader. Diego González Montero Justiniano was quickly appointed to take his place temporarily. He served for a few months, making sure the government continued to function. After this short period, a new permanent governor, Ángel de Peredo, arrived to take charge.

Second Time as Interim Governor (1670)

Once more, Diego González Montero Justiniano was asked to step in as the interim leader. He held this important role for several months.
