Óscar Diego Gestido Pose (born November 28, 1901, in Montevideo, Uruguay – died December 6, 1967, in Montevideo) was an important leader who served as the President of Uruguay in 1967. He had a background in the military before becoming a politician.

Life Story
Óscar Diego Gestido grew up with a strong connection to the military. He served in the army for 36 years. He retired in 1957 with the high rank of general.
After leaving the military, he played a big part in helping people during the Uruguayan floods of April 1959. Many people saw him as a hero for his actions during this difficult time. He was also a member of the Colorado Party, a major political group in Uruguay.
Becoming President of Uruguay
On November 27, 1966, Uruguay held elections. At the same time, people voted on a new constitution. This new constitution brought back the idea of having one president in charge, instead of a council.
Óscar Diego Gestido was elected as the new President of Uruguay. He took office on March 1, 1967. He served as president until December 6, 1967.
Many important people worked in his government. These included Vice President of Uruguay Jorge Pacheco Areco, César Charlone, Luis Hierro Gambardella, Julio Lacarte Muró, Manuel Flores Mora, and Zelmar Michelini. Some of these people later helped start the Frente Amplio political group.
His Death and Successor
Óscar Diego Gestido sadly passed away while he was still president. His burial took place at the Central Cemetery of Montevideo.
His death meant that three Uruguayan presidents had died while in office within a 20-year period. After his death, his vice president, Jorge Pacheco Areco, became the new president.
