Öxabäcks IF: A Swedish Sports Club
Öxabäcks IF is a sports club that has been around for a long time. It was founded in 1931, which means it has been active for over 90 years. The club is located in the small community of Öxabäck.
The Rise of Women's Football
The women's football section of Öxabäcks IF began in 1966. This was very early for women's football in Sweden. The team quickly became one of the most important women's football teams in the country.
For a while, in 1991, the team changed its name to "Öxabäck/Marks IF". This was to show its connection with the larger Mark Municipality. However, after some years, they went back to their original name, Öxabäcks IF.
Championship Wins
The women's football team had amazing success. They won the Swedish national championship many times. They were champions in 1972 (though this win was unofficial), and then officially in 1973, 1975, 1978, 1983, 1987, and 1988.
They also won the Swedish Cup several times. This is another important competition in Swedish football. They lifted the cup in 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1991.
Later Years in Football
After many years of success, the team faced challenges. In the 1998 season, the club was moved down from Damallsvenskan. Damallsvenskan is the top league for women's football in Sweden. Being "relegated" means they had to play in a lower division the next season.
Floorball Section History
Besides football, Öxabäcks IF also had a floorball section. Floorball is a fast-paced sport similar to ice hockey, but played indoors with a lighter ball.
In 1999, the floorball section of Öxabäcks IF joined forces with two other clubs. These were Örby IF and Berghems IF. Together, they created a new team called Team Tygriket 99. This new team later became known as IBK Tygriket 99. This merger helped combine their strengths in floorball.
