Ľudmila Podjavorinská was a famous Slovak writer. Her real name was Ľudmila Riznerová. She was born on April 26, 1872, and passed away on March 2, 1951.
She is known as the first important woman poet in Slovakia. However, many people remember her best for her wonderful children's books. Ľudmila used several different pen names when she wrote. Some of these were Božena, Damascena, Ľ. Šeršelínová, Ľ. Špirifangulínová, Ľudka, and Ľudmila.

Her Early Life and Inspiration
Ľudmila Riznerová was born in a village called Bzince pod Javorinou. Her father, Karol Rizner, was a teacher.
Her uncle, Ľudovít Rizner, played a big role in her writing journey. He encouraged her to send her first stories and poems to newspapers. This support helped her become a published writer.
Ľudmila also had three important women writers who guided her. They were Terézia Vansová, Elena Maróthy-Šoltésová, and Božena Slančíková. She wrote for many Slovak magazines and newspapers. She also translated poems from Russian into Slovak.
Moving and Making a Difference
Ľudmila stayed in her hometown until 1910. Then, she moved to Nové Mesto nad Váhom. For a short time around 1918, she worked for the district Red Cross. The Red Cross is a group that helps people in need, especially during emergencies.
Ľudmila Podjavorinská was also a member of Živena. This was the very first organization for women in Slovakia. It aimed to support and empower women.
In 1947, she received a special honor. She was named a National Artist for Czechoslovakia. This award recognized her great contributions to art and culture in her country.
Ľudmila Podjavorinská died in Nové Mesto nad Váhom when she was 78 years old.
Her Legacy
To honor her, a small space object was named after her. This object is a minor planet called Podjavorinská. It's a way to remember her lasting impact.
