Štefka Drolc (born December 22, 1923 – died June 25, 2018) was a very famous actress from Slovenia. Her full name was Štefanija Ana Drolc. She was well-known for her amazing work in both theatre plays and movies.
Štefka Drolc's Life and Career
Štefka Drolc was born in a place called Ponikva. This area is now in eastern Slovenia. She began her acting journey in the city of Maribor.
Starting as an Actress
Štefka started acting as a hobby. She was so good that she became a professional actress in the 1945/46 season. This was at the Maribor National Theatre. She then moved to Trieste in 1948 and worked there for many years.
In 1960, Štefka became a full member of the Ljubljana Slovene National Theatre Drama. This is a very important theatre in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.
Her Film Work
Štefka Drolc also became a film star. Her first movie was called On Our Own Land. This film was very special because it was the first full-length movie in Slovene with sound!
She acted in several other popular films, including:
- Blossoms in Autumn (Cvetje v jeseni) in 1973
- The Story of Good People (Povest o dobrih ljudeh) in 1975
- The Tenth Brother (Deseti brat) in 1982
Teaching and Awards
Besides acting, Štefka Drolc also shared her knowledge. She worked as a teacher at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGFRT) in Ljubljana. She helped new actors learn their craft.
For her amazing work, Štefka received important awards:
- The Prešeren Award in 2009 for her lifetime achievements in acting. This is one of the highest awards in Slovenia for artists.
- The Silver Order of Freedom in 1996.
Štefka Drolc was married to a film director named Jože Babič. She lived a long and successful life, passing away at the age of 94.
